 Anxiety (Definition, Types and Clinical manifestations)


Definition:

It is an emotional state resulting from a feeling of danger and fear that threatens an individual’s security, or sometimes anxiety may result from a feeling of discomfort. The anxiety may have a known source or an unknown source.


Types of anxiety:

1- Generalized Anxiety disorder: It is unrealistic anxiety or excessive anxiety due to the person being exposed to events or activities, for example: someone having an exam, worrying about the difficulty of the questions, and so on.

2- panic disorder: It is anxiety about being in places or situations that cause panic attacks, so some patients who suffer from this type (panic attacks) usually avoid these situations or places that may cause them to have a panic attack, for example: when there is a person in a very high place, it may occur. It causes a panic attack, especially in people who are anxious about high places. Therefore, such people avoid climbing to high places. Symptoms of panic attacks include severe sweating, increased heart rate, tremors, dizziness, numbness in the extremities, and others.

3- social anxiety disorder: It is intense anxiety and irrational fear due to a person's feeling of negative evaluation by the people around him.

  • Sleep disturbance
  • Irritability
  • Abdominal distress 
  • Chills
  • Trembling
  • Sweating
  • Tachycardia
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Palpitations
