Capsules

 Capsules

It is a solid dosage form of a drugs surrounded by a shell overlapping each other, inside which are the drug substances and inert materials. These shells may be hard or soft gelatin.

Are the capsules intended for swallowing?

Yes, the capsules are intended for swallowing completely, and sometimes the doctor or pharmacist may recommend opening the capsule and mixing its components (drug ingredients and raw materials) and mixing it with drink or food, but this happens under the supervision of the pharmacist.

Why use capsules?

1- The capsules are held comfortably.

2- Capsules are easy to identify by their shape, color, and sometimes the manufacturer.

3- Easy to take capsules orally.

4- Taking capsules does not require spoons like syrup, and you also do not need other measuring devices to take the medication dose.

5- Capsules have no taste when taken, unlike tablets, which sometimes may be bitter or sweet. Therefore, capsules are preferred by some patients because of their lack of taste.

6- Pharmacists can use capsules to formulate medication better than using tablet molds and long tablet manufacturing processes.

7- Capsules are considered more stable than their liquid counterparts, and capsules have a longer shelf life than liquid drug doses.
