In this article, we will talk briefly about the strength of the machine and the resistance of the tablet to crumbling, cracking from its edges, and corrosion.
Friability:
- The main idea of this test is to examine the tablets and know the ability of the pills in the entire resulting batch to meet all the challenges they face from the environment and nature in the market, transportation, lifting items, carrying them in shipping and dealing with them.
- The device contains solid jaws in which the tablet collides at approximately specific speeds for certain periods of time. Either it cuts, scrapes, breaks, or safely crosses the barriers, then it passes the test.
Important information leads to a wrong understanding:
- There are problems in this machine that it is specialized in a certain size and shape of the tablets and it does not accommodate the granules or the thin, large or wide tablets, so it breaks quickly and does not give a correct reading, so it must be a diameter within a certain range and so on or to be coated for friability device.
- Because these abnormalities are either very dry or very wet and the machine cannot check them accurately.
What is the name of the device used to measure friability??
- Roche Friabilator, which is a device in which a certain number of discs are placed, usually 10 tablets. They are weighed before they are placed, of course, they are put together and it starts spinning, so it rotates 25 turns per minute. The discs roll inside and collide with the small barriers until the number of turns is complete.
- After it rotates for four minutes, this machine is stopped and the weight of the 10 rolling discs is measured and compared to the standard weight.
- The weight of the tablets must not decrease by 1 percent from the entire sample, and this is considered acceptable in the quality control assurance standards, and the sample safely passes this test, or if it violates, then the error is searched for and treated for the entire batch.
