• A modern coating process works on coating the tablet to protect the active substance from environmental, physical and chemical factors, and its advantage is that it does not increase the weight of the tablet by a large percentage, as previously, but rather by 3 percent or less.
• It is done by adding a layer of polymeric gelatin to the capsule, tablet, or any kind of medicine pill that can be wrapped, especially the grooved tablet.

Coating mechanism: 

• It is done by adding a certain percentage of the polymer, for example, 20 percent. 
•  Plastesizer: to add strength and density properties to the pill, to increase its strength physically, and to give an external luster with color.  
• Solvents are added to facilitate dipping the tablet and the patch to have the same properties. 
•  Where the coating is done in only one step, dipping the grain in the liquid and drying it.

Advantages of the coating film:

1.  The most important advantage is that the weight does not increase by very high rates, and the pill remains at its previous weight only, with an increase of 3.4%.  
2. Very easy and fast, it does not take much time, only in one step, and the other is drying by spraying a specific substance to be deposited on the outer surface and become a complete coating.
3. Economical and does not require costs according to the rule that says less time, less money and more time, more money as a cost .
4. It will not affect the dissolution time of the pill in the stomach, and the stomach each one will release the active substance in a timely manner, and there will be no strong effect due to the coating.

• When a solvent is used in the manufacture of a polymer, the solvent must be organic, which affects the manufacturer and may cause problems for himself and the environment.
• Cellulose and its derivatives such as ethyl cellulose or cellulose acetate to be dissolved in the added organic solution and be of two types: modified or immediately released.
