Disadvantages of (powders vs granules)
Disadvantages of powder :
- The most important problem is that the powder contains one particle and each atom gives its own taste.
- Because there are pharmaceutical industries of powder that rely on it mainly for its properties in release and absorption .
- The taste is important factor because there is no particle of powder that unites with the same particle (if these particle unite and form one ball of these powders, then it is called granules ).
- The non-formulation of the taste of these bitter powders is eliminated by adding artificial sweeteners or sugars and mixing them well with this active ingredient.
- These artificial sweeteners interact with the cells of the tongue first, so that the bitter taste is not felt while taking the medicine orally, for example, the effervescent .
- These powders are usually not suitable to be swallowed orally because they interact with stomach acid, either they will not give a result and first pass metabolism will not give a result or they will interact with stomach acid and cause ulcers and so on like NSAIDs, it is preferable that they be granules, capsules and coated tablets .
- There are very strong types of medicines that are not given in the form of powders.
Disadvantages of granules :
- We knew that powders can mask the bitter and unpalatable taste by adding artificial sweeteners, but here if the granules themselves taste bitter and it is difficult to add sugar and sweeteners to them!!!?
- The granules do not give a stronger effect of the drug, but rather they are weaker and slower than powders Especially in small doses .
- The granules are relatively large in size, so this requires more storage space and transportation in large quantities .
- Wet environment affects it less than powders .
